I was fortunate to hit the infamous Arkansas Mother's Day hatch in early May. Fair nymphing with caddis imitations in the morning followed by an intense afternoon caddis hatch with lots of surface activity. Most fish were brown trout in the 12-16" range with a few smaller and a few larger. The fishing was excellent, river access was easy, but I probably only fished less than half the property since the fishing was so good near the parking area.

Really fun stretch of the Arkansas with great views and easy access. This was my first fishing trip on the Arkansas, and I unfortunately showed up a bit under geared for the spring run off. Flows were big, and the water was murky. I picked up a couple of nice Brown trout before noon of a black leach streamer, but things really slowed down in the afternoon as the sun came out, and the wind picked up. Lunch stream side with the snow capped mountains made for a memorable day. Love to come back after the run off, and try some nymph patterns as there were some gorgeous holding area's on this stretch of the river.

We spent an amazing two days on this stretch fishing and van camping. What a spot! Amazing views, a huge stretch of gold medal water….did I mention the views? Bumped into the owners, who could not have been nicer. 10/10 for beauty, fishing and camping!

4 of us fished the property and were greeted by a friendly rancher. He wanted to warn us about the overly friendly cows that will walk right up to greet us, which they did. The river was a bit high and murky, and I think a little early in the year for this property. With that said however, the fish could be found in the slow water off the main current. We got into several fish. It’s an amazing property. There was a Bald Eagle around and other wildlife. I’d like to come back later in the year. My only complaint would be that we had to be off the property by 5:30. The fishing really started to heat up when it was time to quit!

This is a long quiet stretch, with many long riffles, runs, and pools, plus a good walk and some bushwhacking through a few thorny areas to get to the bottom of the beat. Coming out and getting to the car is much easier, as you'll be walking on the shoulder of the road. It's well worth it, good fishing with a great view of the surrounding mountains. It'll take a whole day to fish the entire stretch, so bring some water and lunch with you.
