Overview

This location is about 1 1/2 hours north of Steamboat on dirt roads through the national forest. It’s very remote and exceptionally beautiful. Fly fish nearly 5 miles of the Little Snake River at the base of many large foothills. As you fish for famous Snake River Cutthroats, you will hear the calls of sandhill cranes, eagles, waterfowl and elk. There are 3-4 more miles of Battle Creek running throughout the property as well. You won’t run out of water to explore! There’s lots of walking to be done but river access isn’t a problem for younger anglers and people with mobility issues.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This property straddles the Colorado and Wyoming state line. We recommend buying fishing licenses for both states.

Please allow up to 2 business days for booking confirmations.

Due to livestock and other concerns, dogs and other pets are NOT permitted on this property.

Fished the Little Snake and Battle Creek properties on July 13 and 14. Little SnakeRiver was getting low and gin clear. Water was below 80 CFS. Had excellent luck in structure improvement pools but no action in or below natural shallow pools below riffles. Used hopper dropper rigs. Caught 50/50 on top of water and below surface on nymphs. I would like to try it again at higher water level. Land owner very helpful. No phone signal for at least 10 mile radius so forget about the GPS locations, need better signage for parking and boundaries.

We had non-stop action all day long. Our start was delayed because we couldn’t find the RareWaters sign, but after looking at the map several times we were confident we found the Eastern parking lot. During our delay, we stumbled upon the Anderson Cemetery which was fascinating, along with the eagles! Fishing was not disappointing. We had action all day long on dries, nymphs and streamers. Even caught one on a orange scud trailing a streamer! The biggest of the day was an 18″ bow on a Grey Ugly fly. Lots of fun and probably the most serene place you will ever find.

Wow, what a beautiful drive from Steamboat to this property. Lots of fun dodging cattle and sheep on the road. Amazing views too.
We had a great day fishing Battle Creek and the Snake River. Although the water was low, there is lots of man-made structure in the river to create deep pools to hold the fish. We caught all rainbows between 5″ and 18″. To my surprise, our favorite spot ended up on Battle Creek. Just before the confluence there is a big horseshoe shaped structure that creates a big, deep pool. This pool is LOADED with fish. We caught fish on dries, droppers and streamers and lost count after a while. Highly recommend this property!
