Cool property with access to a decent stretch of river. Not sure it hits the mile mark. Fishing was just okay during our stay. Caught as many suckers as we did trout. I’m sure the heavy storms didn’t help. There was an old barn right next to the river that provided us much needed shelter during the storms. Camped in a RTT right next to the river which was amazing! The onsite property caretaker was available for questions and even helped us get access to bathrooms which was much appreciated. Would recommend @ lowest fee option for sure.

Wonderful little stretch of the Middle Fork…First time and the clarity was really off the day I fished..In the short time the water started to clear before the thunderstorms hit the fishing really picked up..Can’t wait to go back!

The Hartsel property was easy to find, it’s a beautiful stretch of the Middle Fork South Platte River. Fishing was good. Caught 6, and lost a few too. All browns, but one of the largest that broke off was a large bow. Most everything on hoppers, a small brown took a tungsten wire nymph, and I had two bumps on a black sex dungeon but no full take. The river is quite shallow now, and at very low flow. I avoided fishing a few pools where current was low, water was warm and trout appeared stressed. We need water flows to pick back up soon. I’m sure the property will be exceptional at higher flow levels, and looking forward to heading back in the spring.

Subscriptions aren’t required but Cutthroat subscribers enjoy perks like $25 off every booking and river reports for each trip. Spend more time on the water and let us worry about the rest!

Landowners have at least one mile of river, stream or creek running through their property. Each property is vetted by RareWaters staff to ensure a premium fly fishing experience.

Right now, we’re focused on Colorado and Wyoming. But don’t worry, we plan to list properties in other states soon. Our goal is to provide you with new water access no matter where you’re traveling.

We offer subscriptions to all anglers. Subscriptions offer anglers discounted rod fees, priority booking and more. $25 of every subscription is donated to a fly fishing nonprofit like Trout Unlimited, Fishing the Good Fight, Casting for Recovery and Project Healing Waters.

After we receive your payment, RareWaters sends anglers a detailed property map including directions and GPS coordinates. We strongly encourage all anglers to save the GPS coordinates into their smartphones before leaving cell service. Google Maps is our preferred app for directions.
