Diamond ArrowCarbondale, Colorado
“Great property. Hooked into a good number of 16-18in Browns and Rainbows in the riffles. Great property, landowner was friendly and helpful.”

Explore the rugged beauty of Wyoming. This property offers anglers 0.50 miles of private access to the world-famous Encampment River in southern Wyoming. You have access to both sides of the river. The closest towns are Encampment and Saratoga.
Fly fishing here is absolutely spectacular. Anglers can expect to get into a bunch of Rainbow and Brown trout in the 16-20″ range. The insect life in this watershed is second to none. Expect to see plenty of fish rising during the right time of year. The Encampment River is some of the best dry fly fishing in the west. Expect to see salmon fly, golden stones, yellow sallies, caddis, tricos, and drake hatches. During runoff, the river can fish well, and hatches will be light this time of year but will start to pick up post-runoff.
Access here is moderate – difficult, as there are some steep banks and willows/brush to get to the water, but you can find space to try out that roll cast. This is what makes RareWaters properties unique to visit, they are wild and they are a bit harder to access but this is what gets you away from the crowds. The private and natural setting is home to many species of wildlife, keep your eyes peeled for deer, bald eagles, beavers, badgers, and more.

September 27, 2023 at 4:08 pmAs expected for 3rd week in September, river was low and clear. Larger fish all holding in deeper pools and runs. Some very nice, but cautious, rainbows feeding on surface, caught on hopper dropper with light tippets. Beautiful spot, worth the drive.

September 26, 2023 at 10:54 amThere are moments that crystallize into an Angler’s concept of perfection. They generally entail dry flies, the sounds of trout slurping caddis, and a stretch of river to one’s own. While I loath to give up a secret, holding this just for myself feels unsportsmanlike. If you are ever so lucky to cast these waters, congrats, you’ve made it.

August 23, 2023 at 4:17 pmCool fishery. Lots of wild rainbows and browns. Need to catch the river at the right time so pay close attention to flows. Access can be a little tough for older folks (like my dad) but it’s a stellar fishery. Love that the fish are wild!!
